Summer Programs

The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District offers summer academic programs for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. The following link contains information about past programs as well as other local and national. The dates and times for programs in this school year are to be determined in the future and may be found at a later date on the C-FBI SD website.

Summer Academy for Gifted Education (SAGE)

The SAGE program is run by C-FB ISD. Students must be qualified academically and be entering grades 1-8. Many science topics are covered. The 2010 program location will be Kent Elementary School. For more information, check back here toward the end of the school year.

Exploration Academy

The Exploration Academy program is also run by C-FB ISD offering courses which explore science and math, to name a few, for students entering grades 1-8. This program will also be located at Kent Elementary School. Additional details can be found on the C-FB ISD website in Spring 2011.

Amateur Naturalists

The Amateur Naturalist program is run by C-FB ISD and offers instruction on things about nature. Topics for this program include such things as pond sampling, bird identification, erosion, crafts, rope tying and insect study. The Amateur Naturalist program will also be located at Kent Elementary School for students entering grades 1-8. 2010 class information is available here

After the Bell

After the Bell Academy is available for students in grades K through 5. After the Bell include educational enrichment, field trips, swimming and recreational activities. Lone Star Leadership Academy

Lone Star Leadership Academy programs are Monday-Friday experiential learning leadership development programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth (4th-6th graders), Austin (5th-7th graders), and Houston/Galveston (6th-8th graders) areas. Participants experience curriculum taught in Texas classrooms through visits to historically, politically, scientifically and environmentally significant sites. Texas teachers facilitate programs including leadership groups where students participate in simulations and leadership activities. In addition, career speakers introduce participants to a wide variety of unique career opportunities. In order to qualify for the program, students must maintain an 85 or higher average and receive an educator recommendation based on demonstrated leadership ability. Students that apply for 2011 spring break and summer programs by December 31, 2010 receive a $20 fall discount off the program fee. Spring Break Program Deadlines: January 22, 2011 (early); February 19, 2011 (final). Summer Program Deadlines: April 9, 2011 (early); May 7, 2011 (final). The Lone Star Leadership Academy is listed in the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented's Insights Guide to Summer Programs. TAGT offers summer scholarships for gifted and talented students to participate in summer enrichment programs including the Lone Star Leadership Academy.

Summer Institute for the Gifted

The Summer Institute for the Gifted offers residential and day programs for gifted and talented students in grades K through 11.

Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities

The Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities (TALH) is a highly selective, early college entrance program for gifted and talented students eager for an enriched intellectual program enhanced by the disciplines of the humanities. The Academy is one of only two residential programs for gifted and talented high school-aged students recognized by the Texas State Legislature.

Sophomores in high school who would like to apply for admission should have a track record of academic excellence, as well as a commitment to improving themselves and the world around them. Texas Academy for Mathematics and Science

The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a unique residential program for high school-aged Texas students who are high achievers and interested in mathematics and science.
